Many women living in the various internally displaced persons (IDPs) camp across Nigeria between the ages of 18 years and 55years were suddenly bereaved as a result of boko haram insurgency mainly in North-eastern Nigeria.
According to the National Council of Women Societies, more than 5,000 widows are now registered in Maiduguri alone.
Presently in one of the camps located in the Federal Capital Territory, Gruku Interfaith Relocation IDP camp, thirty-four (34) widows are residents.
These women have suffered great loss and according to figures from the Nigerian Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) about one third of them are depressed with other and debilitating health issues and without a source of livelihood.
This project is targeted at helping them ease the pain and hardship of losing a spouse and living in these camps.
The September 20 Foundation (TS20F) intends to empower these women to become self-sufficient with the goal of helping them re-integrate successfully into the society.
